Lorraine H. Whitlock Elementary School (Formerly Aiton)

Aiton Elementary received a full modernization to align with DCPS’ educational specifications. The modernized building is roughly 73,000 square feet and serves approximately 271 students, integrating discovery commons spaces, small group rooms, and resource rooms to accommodate special projects, collaborative work, and individual pull-out instruction. Additionally, the design allows for robust physical education and dining services.

Gilbane Building Company (Gilbane) was contracted to modernize Aiton Elementary School (renamed after activist Lorraine Whitlock). Gilbane engaged Atmos to monitor and oversee the successful compliance with Federal and District regulatory requirements, including DOL Davis Bacon and Related Acts, First Source and SBE participation, including the completion and submission of contractual documentation, acknowledgments, subcontracting plans, and monthly and quarterly reporting.
