DC Correctional Treatment Facility Annex (CTFA) - Community Outreach & Engagement
Communication strategy and public engagement planning for the new annex to the Washington, D.C. Correctional Treatment Facility.
Project Overview
The DC Department of General Services (DGS) and the Department of Corrections (DOC) appointed CGL as the architectural program consultant to spearhead the design of a state-of-the-art jail annex.
The Atmos team serves as an integral part of the owner’s representative team and the Department of Corrections to lead Communication Strategy and Public Engagement Planning for the new Annex to the Washington D.C. Correctional Treatment Facility.
Dealing with multiple city and government agencies, D.C. Wards, neighborhoods, Advisory Neighborhood Commissions, and various other stakeholders, the Atmos team was tasked with developing a strategic marketing and communications plan utilizing effective strategies to engage all parties and keep them informed. Prior to the development of the plan, Atmos began by identifying the various stakeholder groups, determining the level of knowledge each group required, and then establishing the best approach for reaching those groups.
Current CTF residents were given a survey designed to poll respondents and learn about their experiences while in the custody of the DC DOC. The survey was administered via an online platform between October 6, 2023 and October 16, 2023 and received 972 DOC jail complex resident responses. The survey was offered in both English and Spanish. Data from the survey, in conjunction with the needs assessment, was used to guide the design and development of the CTF Annex.
